Default Plaything

Just signed the papers on a tired old LP08 seeking some TLC. As I was looking for a shooter project, this one fitted the bill quite well. They're difficult to find over here which made me less picky about it's bad sides.

Muchos buffing and pitting, but barrel rifling is good and everything's there. Nice plaything but sadly only a shade of it's former self.

Appears to be a DWM 1917 arty with adjustable front and rear sight (screws). Alas, date and proof marks went with buffy.

Gerben, at least you got one, I'm still looking for one I can afford, I passed up a nice refinished one 4 years ago for $850, I've been kicking myself ever since.

Hey Gerben,

Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do! I would like to have one that I could take out and shoot, without gritting my teeth each time I pull the trigger. Just knowing that the next shot will cause the demise of an irreplacable part .

lets see paid $325 for my first shooter arty (oh, that was back in 1984), and then $750 for another...

I finally got my first. Went to a small gun show in Payson AZ only to find an Arty on a table priced at $1250. I asked if he was open to trades and offered him a LNIB Glock 22 and Beretta Cougar. He took my trades and I was happy with my matching numbers 1917 Arty. It is all OE except magazine, and has a very nice even grey wear patina.

Now to look for a proper holster.

Guys,

I've got a mismatched donor which will provide most parts except the toggle rear end, receiver and barrel. I am on the lookout for a nice looking target slide, though.

Picked the pistol up today and did some prep work. Grips that came with the gun were bad quality replacement grips, the magazine was the sorriest excuse for a Haenel I've ever seen.

Bits and pieces from the donor Frankenluger cleaned it up pretty well.
The sight adjuster was provided by Roland (pisto).
