Quite an interesting holster! Looks like a commercial type for a 4 3/4 inch barrel model.

He's a cavary NCO so it is most likely not a P08 but one of the many auxilliary pistols as he would not have a private purchase pistol.

Norm, the belt buckle is that of a mounted troop, the sabre is a model 1889Kavalrie Degen or cavalry sabre. Although all mounted troops (arty, train, etc) wore the open buckle, only cavalry were issued the 89KD.
