What does a "eagle C" look like and what does it mean when it is under the serial #?

It depends....
Eagle C is usually a police marking during WW2... Pictures of what you mean would help us, as an eagle C is never under the serial number, unless you mean on a magazine. ed

Ed: Thanks. I now believe the mark I am referring to is really an "I" or "L" indicating the series of the serial number. With that, can you help me date the firearm? The serial # would be 7958 I or L.
