The one pictured on the left of the picture posted by Hugh looks like one that I might have a chance to try making a working version. It won't look quite like the picture but I will give it a try. In a couple of weeks I will let peole know how it goes.

That is a picture of a Luger barrel removal tool that I have for sale in the classifieds. I have since aquired another one and reduced the price on this one to $200.

Whatever gremlin was messing me up last night seems to have gone away. Here is the picture of what I made for a front sight tool. You can see where it broke but I found out that the idea works. The measurements are self evident when you look at what it does and where the barrel goes.

An Excellent try Steve , Its a shame that you could not have tried aluminum or brass Either would probably have made a short life tool that would have given a definite answer as to wheather your very simplt tool would have been sucessful

Is that the Barney Rubble flintstone model from the town of Bedrock?

No. But since I do lapidary work and cut gemstones, I guess I could give it a try! I had a piece of plastic countertop material from another project and decided to give it a try. It was not strong enough.
