I bought a Stog/Mitch Luger 9mm mag from Digital Consulting Service, (ammoclip.com) and it is junk. You have to slam it hard to make it lockup, and to release it you have to use both thumbs. Also, it misfeeds and does not lock back on last cart. Can someone suggest an after market mag that will work in the Aimco Luger. The ones from Aimco are a bit $$$ and not the greatest. Thanks All

for stainless guns I recommend using a lube that will smooth operation a little. I use a mixture containing a few drops of STP oil treatment and your favorite gun oil on my .44 cal Automag that is stainless. I heard it helps prevent galling of the stainless and it sure is slick to the touch... I read this in an old article on the Automag pistol years ago. It works for me. After firing I always clean any residue before storing the weapon...
Experiment on the mixture for lubrication ... If you hang around an autoparts store you can probably find an empty STP can (or equivilent) at the trash barrel with enough in it to mix with your choice of lubrication If the SS Luger is one of the early ones, I believe that it will use standard Luger magazines, but if of later manufacture, it is not the same... but particular to AIMCO... Best, John |

I have one of the latter manufacture versions (year 2000 stamp). I had trouble with feeding problems and from another online site got the suggestion to try Winchester 115gr FMJ. They feed without problems in mine. The bullet shape is a little bit different from other manufactures and MAYBE this is why they feed. The taper is straighter and the round point is smaller in diameter. Who knows if this is why but it is closer to George Luger's original design. Try it, if it works for you, post a response.
The other problems I can't be of much help on. Mine has failed to lock open also on some magazines but always locks open when cycled by hand. I am going to try removing a little metal off the top of the slot that the magazine follower button rides in to see if it just does not go up high enough to push the hold open lever when working at shooting speeds. I thank you for the post because I found out about the STP/gun oil mix. I will let you know how the work on my magazines goes. It may be a couple of weeks before I have a chance to try it. |
