Default Need help with a television and magazine reference

This is a dumb question, but its been driving me nutzo.

I've seen and heard references on television and in books about shooting off a pistol and counting the shots in German.

Like:

*BANG!* "Ein!"

*BANG!* "Zwei!"

*BANG!* "Drei!"

*BANG!* "Vier!" etc, until the gun is empty.

What exactly is this a reference to? I have no idea if this is offensive to anyone or not, so if it is, please don't yell at me.

Hi,

This is correct. Ein, Zwei, Drei, Vier, etc... is just one, two, three, four....
Over here (and I guess over there as well ) we teach people to count their shots. Helps to avoid confusing situations on the firing range and while cleaning
