Recently, I've looked at several artillery holsters & stocks. Many do not have much, if anything for markings. I looked at one rig where all I could find was the letter "d" near the latch and a strange stamping on the wood that looks like a small "b" followed by three backwards "L"s. This, like others I've looked at has no serial # on the iron. Also, I've seen several old brown holsters with no makers marks or any other indicatuion of dates, etc.
I'm not a veteran collector, but I know that I am looking at genuine goods, not repro -which I have seen plenty of. There seem to be little information on holsters outside of whittington's book. Are these old commercials stock/rigs ? (just guessing). Any info would be appreciated here , like to learn a bit about this . Thanks, Bob |
