I've owned this pistol since the 1980's and have always liked it. Back when everybody wanted the P226 for the high capacity mag I found the P225 better fit those of us with shorter fingers. But I don't see a lot of them around. Was it not popular here in the US? I was told at the time it was adopted by the West German Police and I notice that mine, unlike a lot of the Sigarms imported pistols, was made and fully assembled in Germany (actually West Germany at the time).

The Victorian Prison Service's "State Emergency Services Group" use the SIG P229 in 40S&W. I must admit I don't like them much, I too have stubby fingers!

If you ever get the chance, handle the P225. For those of us with smaller hands and shorter fingers it's very comfortable to handle. Almost, but not quite, as nice as the Colt 1911.

Which was/is the substitute standard for US personnel? The 225 or 229 single stack 9mm? It was/is issued for those with short fingers that found the 92 uncomfortable back in the mid 90's? In the Sig line I've only had 230, 232, 226, 220 and 210 and haven't paid that much attention to the others. I quit logging the rounds in my 226 after I reached 20,000. (I did sell my 220 after a few days at the range with an HK Tactical -- the ONLY plastic gun I own).
I suspect my 226 must be coming up on 30 now and I'm about to the point of wanting to replace the barrel (I can't decide if it's me or the gun getting bigger groups as I've been shooting them all poorly and not often enough lately). For late 20th century combat side arms, an excellent argument can be made for the Sig as being the best of them all (I'd start by pointing out the SEALs broke their Glocks and Berettas with +p+ sten-gun ammo that the 226 ate without a problem).

I like my SIG P225. Great little gun. Sort of a "short P220" if you will. I'll probably get another one before long as I like it so much.
From what information I have gathered around with SIG fans, they tell me, SIG stopped producting the P225 for a while (either they stopped producing them or stopped selling them to the civilian market-I don't know which). Don't know why, just that they did. They have since re-introduced it a short time ago back into the market. Again, this is unconfirmed info, just info I picked up here and there. Probably the ones that can give you the best info is at www.sigforum.com . |
