First and for most I would like to say hi to everyone and hope to learn a lot!! Now I must ask for some help. This would be my first luger that I have a opportunity to buy. It is a 1937 S-42 it has matching serial #'s except the magazine. He is also selling it with the holster but does not have the tool for it. On the barrel it has the serial number and also 8:83 and a mark that looks like a crown with feathers coming off of it. The frame has the the same # and a fancy "y" on it plus the three markings on it. I am attaching photos please please I am no photographer. I know it is hard to tell me anything about it or what would be a fair price without seeing it but if you can it would be appreciated. I am seriously thinking of buying it. If you need more info I would be pleased to share, if need be I will try to take better pictures. Thank you for your input in advanced.

hi, welcome to the forum, I can tell you that it is a 1937 (year) s/42 is the code name for Mauser and that the 8,83 is the bore diameter (it passed the test).

The acceptance and proofs are on the right

Do you know what price he is asking?

Is it all matching, to include the interior; firing pin, toggle pin, hold open, etc?

Thank you for the quick reply. The only thing I can't tell about the firing pin, (I am searching how to field stripping it) but everything that I could see matches except for the mag. I did remove the grips and they are wood with matching numbers.

Hi Rob, Let me add my welcome. Can you include a couple of pictures of the magazine? We would like one of the markings on the base. Regards, Norm

Sure can but it will take a little time have to send it from my cell the camera battery died on the last picture of the holster. In the mean time it is #5410 with a cursive "i" and it looks like a "V" with 3 lines on each side a line coming out of the middle of the "V"

Hi Rob, and welcome to the forum.

It's hard to judge much from your first photos. Try taking them again, and observe a couple of things;

- Don't use a flash. Take the pictures outdoors in the shade (indirect light)
- Get a tripod and use it to steady your camera. The self timer can be used to completely eliminate camera shake.
- Use the closeup setting on your camera for closeups. It has an icon that looks like a flower on most digital cameras.

Try and get closeups of the proof stamps on the front right of the receiver, all the markings on the barrel, the interior of the grip panels, and the front and rear of the metal grip on the frame. Take pictures of everything that shows a number. If you remove the grip panels, be extremely careful not to chip the left panel near the safety lever in the upper right.

There are instructions for carefully disassembling the luger and putting it back together again on this site. If you disassemble it, get pictures of the interior, the breech block/toggle train.

My first impression is that you are looking at an all matching 1937 Mauser luger in original finish. Can't tell for sure because of lack of focus and the lighting.

At what price range is this being offered to you?

Marc
