1938 Luger
I have a 1938 Luger that I got from my father 30 years ago. It has been in the family for over 70 years. I would like to sell it but not sure how to value it. All numbers match including the clip. Has the German manufacture mark on the barrel. Very little ware. Gun has never been fired during my family's ownership. Any help would ne appreciated.

Looks like a nice honest Luger, and the visible #'s seem to match. The holster is for a P-38. Value for something like yours could be around $2000. Holster not sure of. Nice to have pic of front of frame under barrel. Online dealers are pricing these condition Lugers somewhat higher by a few hundred dollars.

Welcome. Nice pictures, so far.
Under the barrel is still pretty hard to make up and the full serial number and suffix should be on the front of the frame. It's hard to get a good picture indoors - outside might work better. |

Looks like a fine honest example with a matching magazine. I saw a similar example (1937 with one matching mag, slightly higher finish condition and a loading tool) change hands between collectors for $2,400 a couple years ago and my sense is prices have increased since then.
You might check if the grips and other parts are matching. If yes I think $2,000 is a little low for just the pistol. The holster has its own separate value to a P38 collector, don't know the market for those. |
