Default Installation of retaining pins...

Hello to all, I've been working on some fixtures and tooling to make it easier to install new magazine bottoms, and most importantly the retaining pins, that hold them in place... I figured out a long time ago, that when they were originally assembled, they drilled the magazine shell and wooden magazine bottom in one shot, and pressed the pin home at the same time.. (not Mauser alum.??) and as a result, no two bottoms will interchange exactly, just because of drill wander, as well as inaccurate placement and small variences, which probably changed from batch to batch. So after a lot of trial and error,...... I now have the ability to install or swap out bottoms, and re-pin with absolutely no damage or distortion to the retaining pin hole on either side of the tube... All who have dabbled in this black area of, "Mess'en around with mags!" has ruined their share of them.. ....Me included.. So, before you make that round hole oblong on that minty mag shell with the busted bottom... send it to me.. For a relatively small charge, I'll do it right... ... Best to all, til....lat'r...GT

Default Mag repair

Hi Bill & Ed & all... Yes, I've got the "fxo" type down pretty good also, with correct fixtures and tooling to do correctly... It doesn't look too tough, but it, the rivet, was kinda hard to reverse engineer, as no drawings are around, at least that I've found??... Thor is bluing up a bunch of them, that I made, as we speak!... The "Bakelite" black plastic bottoms are somewhat easier, as they barely up set the flared ends of the rivet.. But the aluminum bottoms are like a can of worms, as in, "once you open up a can of worms, it takes a bigger can to put them back in again?" So it is with the rivets for the aluminum bottoms.. They are press set so hard, that the setting tool, literaly bends the rivet, and presses the ears of the mag bottom up against the mag shell... The only solution when replacing them onto another tube, is to use a shorter rivet... and set it hard also.. I'm having some of them blued also... Hopefully in the very near future, I'll be able to address any type of mag repair necessary to achive a quality unit... Straightening them is getting a bit better as my experience grows ... best to all, til....lat'r...GT

I've changed a few mag bottoms myself over the years, but GT is the best at it. TH

Default mag spring

Hi Chromeed, the stiffest mag spring around is outt'a the 06/70 Mauser Parabellum magazines... I'd try one of these mags before all else.. and if it works, then we can see if we can find a busted bottomed mag and rob the spring out of it!..... we can make it work one way or another.. just have to start somewhere.. best to you, til...lat'r....GT.....

GT,
I have a 1970's Mauser Parabellum 8" barrel but the Magazine has a round spring like a MEC-GAR, the springs I need are flat. The Mauser spring is much stiffer than the American Eagle.

Default springs & things

Hi chromeed, about all we can do at this point is try an fxo mag spring.. it may not be stiff enough, but at least try the Mauser mag as it is, just to see if the stiffer spring is the way to go on it... We might be chasing our tail till we know more.. best to you, til...lat'r...GT

Tom,
I purchased from Wolf on monday a LUGER 7.65 & 9mm +10% XP SQR MAGZNE SPRNG I think with Shipping I only spent 2 times what you are asking.
Did I order the right one? Well I guess it will be the right one if the Magazine works and no more single action.
Thanks

With the Wolf spring in the magazine I had no more single actioning. I still have the problem of the action not staying open on the last round (how can I fix this)
