shoulderstock question

New to this forum and I have a question regarding the shoulderstock below.
Is it commercial luger and what might it be worth.
It is being offered to me along with a badly butchered 1915 DWM and I don't know if I should just walk away from the whole thing, or go for it to obatain the stock.
The only mark on it is the number "02" stamped into the metal attachment.
The cheek rest is carved into both side of the stock.

Anotherlefty,

The short answer is, this stock was never manufactured for use as original with any Luger, and as such cannot legally be attached to--or owned with--a Luger with a barrel length of less than 16 inches.

That stock is worth 10 years at Club Fed and a $20K contribution to Uncle Sugar.

The previous posted have assumed you live in the USA...if not, your country's laws about a "non-authentic" should stock might vary...

The stock pictures is certainly not one of the military "flat board" type. Rather it is more of the Luger Carbine type. I've never seen on with the cheek rest, but if the dimentions are right, it might be legal for a carbine. TH

As usual the gloom and doom guys are at it again. Always try to scare off the new guys! This is an unusual Luger stock. I have seen similar things at Simpson LTD some years ago from unknown source but readily for sale in a known "Legal shop" If you don't buy it----I am certainly interested. Please let me know where it is and how to contact owner. Just don't display it attached to a Luger. Certainly it would not be legal on a standard 1915 4" bl Luger----but an unusual item to have and display. awb@kvmo.net

Hey Lefty ....I like it Ã?Â¿Ã?Â¿ I'll buy the 1915 AND the fancy stock,sell the 1915 for $450 in parts on ebay and have a vintage Custom stock for my 1920 DWM Custom 16 inch Com'l. Or do you want to swap something for it ? Like maybe a nice " shooter " Luger ? Lemme know ?

I think that we all must remember that there is a way to "Legally" attach a butt stock to even a 4" Luger. It will cost you to do it, but if you live in a state that allows SBR's (Short barreled rifles) you can file a Form 1 with the NFA branch. After approval you can attach the stock to the registered gun regardless of barrel length. Of course for this privilege you will have to pay $200.

Another way is to install a 16Ã¢?Â or longer barrel. There are conversion kits for the 1911-A1 that do the same thing.

Art, I understand your position, but to discount the very real and serious consequences of owning an item viewed by the ATF as highly illegal could be foolhardy at best. I think Tom has been instrumental in warning newbies and us old timers alike, of the very consequential possibilities in our collecting endeavors. While it may, at times,seem a little over the top, it certainly is something to think about.
The stock question is something that comes up often and my CCR licence is quite clear about it. I have advised others that have Emailed me about this lately, it might benifit them to give their local ATF office a call to clarify this issue or to go to the ATF website and look into it closely. Depending on where you live, the authorities may be looking at you closer than you think.
While I am not paranoid on this subject, I respect the over enthusiastic law enforcement officer who may not understand the law himself and if you are ever called to explain yourself and or your weaponry it would behoove you to have the proverbial ducks in a row so to speak.

I was at the range one time with some shooting buddies and we were all trading and shooting each others weapons. I looked back and one of my friends was trying to attach my Imperial Navy stock to a 4" Luger. I stopped him from doing so . In the wrong place at the wrong time this could be prosicutable, simply from ignorence. I took a couple of seconds and explained to the fellow why this could net him some time behind bars if the wrong person were there to observe it. We all need to be reminded from time to time.....

I agree with you that there are several provisions for legal possesion of a stock like this. I would just not be too cavalier about it. Leading the novice collectors to believe we do not take these issues seriously on this Forum would do them a poor service. Jerry Burney

A little more info for you: This stock obviously was not made by someone in their basement workshop and the 1915 DWM it is being offered with has a 16" barrel.
