It would not be out of line to post an ad with an inflated value and then print it out and include it with your itemized homeowners insurance rider, whether it sells or not. It is probably something I should be doing for my guns.

Hmmm...I rather don't think the condition warrants the price tag. I suspect you are being factitious, right?
There are far cheaper and higher condition commercial P.08s available. Check out Legacy and Pre98.

Only a little more than 300% over priced.

I should have added something like: "Now for your entertainment..."
But it would be interesting to follow. Take an average run-of-the-mill commercial Luger, write a dramatic B. S. history for it, and put a hysterically laughable price-tag on it and see what happens. Remember, he only needs to fool one person. An interesting lesson in marketing. dju |

I would have a difficult time considering paying much more than $1000. for a 1921 Commercial with no inspection period, not returnable, has the $1,000,000. chip, questionable condition, 1 photo, a major B.S. story as to it's acquisition, from a seller with only one positive feedback, with two sales to his credit, claiming to have for sale a 94 year old pistol that has never been fired. Just my two cents.

Yeah,
but it was owned by a famous person who was written about by another- all you have to do is Pay an extra $4k to find out who and by whom! Sounds like a deal to me - for the seller. |

The famous person served under Patten. Who the hell was Patten? So much for the accuracy of "the rest of the story."

This listing appeared in my Gunsamerica "Wishlist" this A.M. It is so ridiculous I'd considered posting about it, just to give everyone some comic relief.
I think the "Honey, I listed it!" explanation is the most kind. Everything I noticed about the ad has already been mentioned, so I have only one further comment: The upshot of this ad is that it is likely, indeed, that this seller is pointing his finger at his market to indicate they are idiots. The problem (for him) with that is that--as someone instructed me long ago--if someone is pointing a finger in this way at someone else, close examination of the situation reveals that the "pointer" has three fingers pointing back at him/herself!

Remember 1908 was the first military luger and probobly was the longest in the wartherefore the most use. If it were the 1908 commercial version it would not have that many concerns. I bought my 1908 military from a fellow member with unit markings so I'm assured all is legit. The seller is showing you only half the centerfold!! Eric

He is also offering a nice, but not particularly rare trench gun for ONLY $6,000, about three and one half times what it is worth. He cleverly words the inspector's mark description to almost sound like it belonged to the General himself.
http://www.gunsamerica.com/943974374...-Trenchgun.htm I also noted the unusual spelling of his name, "Erich", in the German style. Sounds like Erich is trying to build a retirement account upon other's ignorance. |

The sad thing is, someone with more $$ than knowledge or sense may actually buy it!

Almost as good as the zero feedback seller on Ebay this past weekend who (against Ebay policies) listed a run-of-the-mill P08 for a BIN of $6,000.
He may wind-up on Gunbroker sometime soon..... |
