Eric,I was in the hospital when our washer hose broke. Thank God most of my collection was high and dry. There was 2 pieces of leather leather each from Rock Island Arsenal.Thank the Good Lord my test holster was stored with my test piece. I found the other leather ammo pouch today and already mold has set in like a black cancer. Ill ask Jerry what if anything I can do. For now I have it drying out next to me. At least with hurricanes you see them coming. Any suggestions. I just found and attached 2 photos of the before damage last year.

Tough break, Eric, not something anyone would wish on top of what you're going through. (Though we've not "met" so far on the forum, I read it voraciously and, hey, once you've seen the x-rays of a guy's ankle, you feel kinda part of the family.) Hang in there with this loss, and don't feel too guilty. We all mean the best and do the best we can. Then real life intervenes, as we can picture in our minds' eyes the exact moment of the insidious burst, and the subsequent deluge that added even more history to your leather. And some history is sad.
Thanks for the cautionary tale, not so much for the suggestion as to altitude for housing our collections--which is something that is logical and seemingly would "go without saying", but, as in my case, how it applies to procrastination. I've heard that the things that need most to be said are the ones the "go without saying". You've inspired me to renew efforts at finding a gun safe. A good thing. <<(Thanks, Martha, guess I'm stuck with that now.) Thanks again. David Parker |

Dave, Thank You for your words of encouragement. There are so many out there whose riggers make mine seem like a mere diversion. Having spent months in 2 different rehab/nursing homes I spent times with different generations. Although I received a BA in History over 30 years ago, It seemed to me to be surrounded by so many wasted minds, often forgotten or ignored. Some of the cute Grandmas dress up for every meal, humming 'String Of Pearls' or the like to preserve a happy and simplier time plaqued not by timeless degeneration. I loved flirting with these ageless souls. Coaching a mere smile or a shimmerling glint in the still beautiful blue eves. I picked the recollection of a quiet Gentleman who survived the initial landing at Iwo Jima. His fineness hour that I cannot even imagine! I'm 55 and He had over 30 more years of of life and these our greatest sources are often innored. Pain is a mear distraction that can be alleviated with a single needle, lonliness is much more dibilitating and deadly. I Thank You and pray that each of us never ignore our past as we eventually will relive it! Make it pleasant! For You are the screivener of your own future and past! Make every moment count!

Eric, i hope these were repro 'rock island' pieces....
Water damage is a nasty son of a gun and it messes things up, mold you can get rid of it, but actual damage, that is bad. Here is my x-ray, needle is still there until the doctor in the States can take it out ![]() Hope YOU are feeling better ![]()

ooooch!!! You can probobly setoff metal detectors!! I would be afraid of infections!!The leather cartridge case is legit, The discoloration is limited to the outside and appears to be some sort of black mold. I dont know whegther i can treet it or leave it alone. Thank the heavens the test piece was packed safely outside of harms way! I have to check with Mr. 'B' He will know! PS God Speed and stay safe!! I'm serious....

I am glad that Eric and I can share this moment, but his is far worse than mine, mine is an inconience! Eric, my friend, get better, get dry and you stay safe.
It will be funny to pack again, as a IT guy over here, we uh, weren't issued weapons... Yes, I know I was next to the Iranian border, but hey, it was better than being next to the N Korean border ![]() Ed |
