Newbie with a DWM Luger

Looking for some info on this piece I just picked up

SN is 4955 all parts matching
Left grip has initials carved in it.

Has the N with a crown, no date above the chamber, bluing looks really nice but it doesn't appear to be a reblue.

Stamped Germany below the barrel has 2 mags both with wooden bottoms one says GERMANY the other has a serial number non matching to the rest of the piece.

Tom, welcome to the forum.

Suffix under the serial number?

Any date or proofs on the right?

post war east german?

caliber?

I ask because usually a crown N is commericial, but many came into weimar service as army or police, and not going into export with a germany stamping.

Pictures would help a lot, front, back, sides, top and pictures of the magazines.

Also, did it come with a holster, as its odd to come with 2 mags and nothing else (well, not that oddd, folks pick up what they can and might have bought the germany mag later)

Looks like a cursive o under the date..

I have pictures but I suck at photography

I thought it was chambered in 9mm (I assumed) I'll break out calipers tonight and see what it measures.

No holster, My grandfather collected guns and this and a japanese nambu were all I could get my hands on.

I'll take more pictures tonight now that I've figured out how to use the macro function on my camera.

Oh yeah... nothing on the right in the way of proofs or dates... the only markings are serial numbers, the cursive o, the n with the crown, Germany, and the DWM stamp

If you can drop a #2 pencil down the barrel, its a 9mm, if it won't slide down, its a .30 Luger

k so a #2 slides down but a 9mm wont chamber

Look into the bore and see if the chamber is "stepped' for the bottleneck .30 case. Another possibility is that there is a cartridge case in the chamber with the base sheared off..

Calipers measure .300 at the muzzle... it's a 30 luger...

This is a commericial luger, unfortunately you find many in very nice shape here in the USA, value probably around $700-$800 at the most. The extra magazine is an early one and worth money by itself, how is the body?

The germany marked magazine is worth more than a blank wood based one too in my opinion.

Body of the mag is in decent shape... no dings or anything.. looks like it's got old grease dried on it. So.... I can shoot this thing?

'O' block was last half of 1925, first part of 1926. 4955, probably late 1925.

Don't shoot either of these mags...You might possibly crack or break a wood bottom and foolishly destroy most importantly... history and secondly their value.

Noted... I don't have 30 luger ammo so I won't be shooting it for a while
