Hey fellas , I comming over to the USA for a visit, family holiday and a little business. Should arrive about Nov 20 in LA.
Will be in LA for about 5days , then down to Tuscon AZ for a shoot with the FCSA, then over to NYC for a few days. Not sure how much free time I will have but if anyone lives in those locations and wants to catch up for a chat it might be possible. Or if anyone knows of any must see shops, museums or specialists in Militaria, guns in general and Lugers of course, please let me know. Kind regards Chris

Shoot me an e-mail: Jacklawman@hotmail.com
I live just outside the "City". Send me your New York itinerary (what you have so far). NYC is a big place. The Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier is docked on Manhattan's West side. It is a floating museum and was just refurbished. It is a combat veteran, victim of a kamikazee attack. It's chilling to stand in the hangar where the zero struck. You can almost feel the presence of the lost crew. I have not seen it since its "refinish", but if you're into WWII history you'll enjoy it. Part of the museum and docked next to the carrier is the "Growler", a nuke missle sub. First of its kind. You had to surface, open the missle pod, and fire off the deck. My how far we've come! http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/ The Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island is POWERFUL, uniquely American history. Worth seeing. Make sure you're on line a little early for the first ferry. It can get crowded. Harkens back to a time when people came here to become Americans and make America great. Now, most people come here so they can maintain their ethnic/national identity and just live here. http://www.nps.gov/stli/ Enjoy your trip, safe travels, Jack

If you will be in Arizona the first weekend in December, you should take in the Phoenix SAR gun show which is the biggest in the southwest.

Chris,
I live and work in the Washington DC area, but your itinerary doesn't mention that you will pass close by... if you ever do, please contact me via PM in advance... I will show you the Capital city of the free world.

Chris, Welcome to the USA. I was in Australia during the VN war and found you "blokes" to be more of the "American Ideal" (friendly, patriotic, athletic, great beer, etc) than most of us. I toyed with the idea of emigrating myself, until I learn more about the politics (ours has not been any better lately) and "old school tie" basis of employment. While in LA, I'd suggest a trip to Martin B. Redding gun shop in Culver City, one of the last great shop in the area. Also a trip to the Smithsonian's Museum of Sicence & Industry (some historic guns) and the NRA Museum in the DC area. Bon Voyage, TH

Right, Tucson... hey wait a minute, that's where I live... and that FCSA match... it's held on the range right next to our Cowboy Action range.
Ok, so in the testosterone department we have the Pima Air and Space Museum, separate Titan Missile Museum, and Old Tucson Studios. There is also a small American militaria museum at a place called Trail Dust Town, and actually it's pretty good of late. Tombstone AZ is just down the road as well. There is also a zoo called the Desert Museum, which is very good, but not very Luger related. The Tucson Rifle Club is at a place called "Three Points", which is about half way out to the big observatory at Kitt Peak, in case that kind of thing amuses you. The 1000 yard folks typically do their business in the morning while the air is still, so the rest of the day could feature that side trip. As I understand their schedule, the Altar Valley Pistoleros will be holding a 5th Sunday match during at the same time as your Sunday match. Not sure if this will actually come to pass due to some recent changes in the rules on how the ranges interoperate, but that's how the schedule reads. Our OPSA match is the next Sunday, same range. Send me a PM if you will be around on a non match weekend, and maybe we can get up an informal lead-slinging expedition to a local desert location. I don't own any "collector's items", everything shoots. H |

The gun show in Phoenix is a three day show and will be held December 5th to the 7th at the Arizona State Fairgrounds. It is actually a twin show combining the Crossroads of the West traditional show and the SAR show which is devoted to full auto weapons. The show is held in six large buildings plus an outdoor tented area. If you need any further info or lodging recommendations, contact me by e-mail at neveragain18@sbcglobal.net
Have a successful trip, Aaron |
