Post Commercial Mauser banner holster

Just acquired "41" chamber marked Mauser banner in the "y" series, two matched clips, an unmarked tool and a black holster with a buckle, marked "ftc" (Frost u., Jahnel Breslau) 1941 with E/WA182 proof. What is the "correct" holster for a commercial banner luger? I was told the holster should be unmarked also.

CalDoc, Interesting question. I can only speculate on it and give you no real deffinate information.

I would suspect, that correctly as you surmise, the holster original to the pistol might have been a commercial unmarked piece. This being said I would explore a little more on what you mean by correct and commercial. I realize these pistols are believed to be commercial but almost no pistol in wartime Germany 1941 remained so. I would think this pistol surely saw war service,it is sure to be the case. So why would not a military holster be just as correct as a commercial? The pistol started out as a commercial and ended up as a military. Either would be appropriate in my way of thinking. It would be entirely up to you to choose which would be preferable.

By the way, congratulations on your fine pistol. It is truly a rare one! Welcome to the Forum...Jerry Burney

Hi,
The "41" two digit Banner is an extremely rare Luger to find, and to find it with two matching magazines is a great find.

If I may ask, what is the serial number of your Luger and what type of magazines does it have? Are they marked with a "1" or "2" for police use? This would help determine which holster was correct for your piece. Thank you. Good collecting!

I knew that this interesting subject should spark some knowledgable interaction! Thanks MauserLuger! Good catch on the matching mags! I must have been asleep at the switch. Now if we can lure CalDoc back online to get some answeres. I fear he may feel neglected...Jerry Burney

Dear Jerry and Mauserlugers, I am back with info on the 41 banner. Actually I am Herb Fisher who posted as #81 but inadvertently resigned as "CalDoc" but John Sabato cleared all that up. In any event, I bought the banner at the Reno Gun Show recently. The serial # is 595 "y". The matching aluminum bottom clips are indeed numbered "1" and "2", #2 has the "+" sign. The piece is immaculate, with strawed parts and fine walnut grips. I'll try to post photos if interested in about 10 days when I pick it up from Krausewerks. Appreciate both of your input.

Hey Doc,

Congratulations on that nice rig...I saw it it Reno and it's a beaut !!!

Now it's time for you to get your C&R license so you won't have to do that stupid 10-day wait thing in CA-State and continue to give any transfer dealer your cash...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
