I'm going to be photographing some of my pistols and have been advised that using white lacquer stick will make the markings stand out well. I've never done this before and have a few questions:
1) Where can I get this? A brand name would be useful as I'm in the UK and it may not be readily available. 2) I assume that it doesn't damage the pistol? 3) How do I get it off afterwards? Any advice would be much appreciated. John |

Brownells sells it for around $2 a stick. It can be removed with a little alcohol on a patch or clean rag.Click Here for Brownells Lacquer Stik <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Here in the U S most auto parts stores carry it under the name "Paint Stick" it's used by car enthusiasts to high light the lettering on their tires.
When I use it taking photos of firearms, just rub it over the markings then remove the excess with "Q-TIPS", using "SIMPLE GREEN" as a solvent. S. G. is the best stuff going, for the general cleaning of firearms. Hope you have S.G. in the UK or something thats equivalent. The only problem I've experienced so far using "Paint Stick" is what the markings are etched rather then stamped or engraved. I had a Chinese copy of a Walther .22 target pistol with etched markings, that gave me fits!
