Property numbers were assigned to all manner of items. In Goertz book, he has copies of illustrations showing the Prussian Police marking system with where to mark pistols, rifles, bayonets, etc, etc, etc. Since there is nothing in the records to indicate that there was a separate system or "fenced numbers" for Lugers, it seems very reasonable to infer that all property numbers in a department were simply sequential and Number 118 may be a Luger while Number 119 might be a trommelmagazine.
In any event, a police expert such as Joe Wotka is probably the guy to answer this; I belive he and Jan Still are buds; if so, perhaps Jan will read this and pose the hypothesis to Joe. Tom A. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> |
