Luger Case on AA
This case looks well made.
Are there any examples of original cases made of mahogany? [quote] This beautiful brand new hand rubbed mahogany Luger case fits 4" barrel pistols and two spare magazines.

http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temNum=3469439

That case is a truly handsome, if somewhat dysfuntcional item.
But to get to the underlying question, "Are there any examples of original cases made of mahogany", Like everything else in the wonderful world of toggle tops, you have to parse the question carefully. Its as bad as being Slick Willy's lawyer,"It depends on what you think the meaning of is is". Strictly speaking, there are no "original" cases. The old-timey ones you see in the books were add-ons by the distributors and dealers. The only exceptions I know to this are those pistols that were produced with the specific intent of being presentation pieces, (Goering's K'hoff comes immediately to mind)and those which have been produced by Mauser in the 1970's as commeratives and presentation pieces are in mohagony if that was what was ordered. CMR in England does a very nice job of recreating these and has repops of the distributor's labels also. 'Course they wouldn't fool anyone until artfully aged by Amerikanische Waffenfabrik, then hang on.... A friend was allowed to photograph the presentation case for the Model 1900 Carbine that was presented to Teddy Roosevelt. If memory serves me correctly, that case is a wooden case with the engraved presentation plaque on the lid. Sadly, the carbine is missing and it's whereabouts is unknown.

Johnny,
Could you arrange for the pics of the Roosevelt presentation Luger and case to be posted here? I would like to put pictures of it in a Member Gallery album.

Wes,
The friend does not belong to the forum, but I can probably get him to e-mail me the pictures. |

Johnny,
You have a friend that is a Luger enthusiast and he does NOT belong to the forum? He needs to be properly educated! Even if he chooses not to post, there is much here to be learned and shared... please invite him to join us.
