Does anyone else see a standard Luger with a .22 conversion unit here? I don't see any of the LP-08 characteristics evident in the picture.

Doubs,
The scan quality does not help in the analysis. I agree with you that it is more probable a P08 with a .22 conversion unit, but I have some doubs also concerning this solution.
Ciao
Mauro

Looks more like a high quality target grade air pistol to me. I used to have one that looked very much like this one.

This same photo was the subject of a thread on Jan Still's forum that was initated by Jerry Burney (lugerholsterrepair). The general direction of the anaysis of the photo on that forum is that it is an air pistol and that the photo probably is Weimar era. I have to agree that it is an air pistol, one with a wood or plastic material grip and fame cover, and having a top break barrel for loading and cocking. I do not think it is a Luger, neither LP08 or .22 conversion.

Ron's on the money, it's not a Luger of any configuration. Also, the marksman is probably Reichswehr not Wehrmacht.

Sanya, These fellows are actually Luftwaffe. Notice the Officers peaked hat wreath...It has the wings that denote the Air Service. Very interesting photo's, Thanks for sharing. Jerry Burney

It is also my opinion that the first photo is of a soldier shooting an air-pistol...
