Post Another Arty

Hi guys. My friend has a second Ary that I need advice on. I'll send photos when I can.

1915 DWM, all matching including 2 mags. Condition is strong 90%, micro adjustable front and rear sights, some freckling on right side of muzzle. Bore looks great.

The gun comes with non-matching 1915 holster, loading tool, beer barrel cleaning rod, and non matching shoulder stock with all leather. No shoulder straps or mag pouch. All accessories are in excellent shape.

My friend bought it off his friend who was a Colonel in WWII and took it off a German Artillery officer.

What ball park am I in for price.

He also has a 4" 1917 DWM in a 1916 holster w/ loading tool 2 aluminum bottom mags. Grips and slide stop don't match. Condition is about 85% and the stock lug has been ground off. I'm thinking $400-$500 on that one.

Jim, Sounds like you have quite a find here...

Pistol, $1200.00 to $2500. !915 is a rare date.

Holster, In good shape, $200.00 to $400.00

Original stock, $300 and up.

Straps and boot? $100.00 to $200.00 depending on condition, stampings , everything there.

Cleaning rod, $75.00 to $125.00 Markings?

All of this depends on so many things that there is no way to come to any accurate consensus with out seeing this rig in person. Jerry Burney

Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to get close at this point. The stock is marked with a crown over S. I got some photos but not as detailed as I'd like due to time constraints.

Jim, Excellent photo's. You had better take some serious cash over to your friends house and get your hands on this rig. From what I can see this is a really great find. Don't let this one get away, rigs in this condition do not come along every day. Good Luck, Jerry Burney

Thanks on this one, too Jerry.

I will absolutely try to obtain this gun and rig. My friend knows what its worth and I'm confident the asking price is between $3000-$3500. Quite an investment, he paid $100 for it from the Colonel who brought it back.

At this point I need to sell some guns to finance the purchase or I'll deplete my savings if I buy every good deal I find.

Jim, I know what you mean about buying every good deal to come along. I don't know how interested you are in this rig or what part of it. If you would consider splitting it up I could use the holster and stock. If this is even a remote consideration please don't hesitate to let me know your thoughts. Might help you to acquire the pistol without selling other things you might not want to let go...Thanks and good luck, Jerry Burney

Ps. I get a kick out of your saying at the bottom..Do you know who is credited with this?

Clint Eastwood in Josey Wales. He is in the bar just after they get to the town where his girlfriend's Dad is from.

Ed's right on. A bounty hunter wants to catch Josey Wales and says, "A fella has to make a livin' somhow." and Josey says, "Dyin' aint much of a livin', boy."

One of the best lines ever, next to, "You guys have killed a dozen people this week. What are gonna do next week?", in MHO. OK, ED, where's that one from?

Been years since I've seen that!

Yes, I went on-line and checked Clint movies, sounded like one they'd say in one of his movies.

Jerry, I'm going to go for the Arty set but it may take me a few months. If my friend had put the set together I might consider splitting it up but since the whole rig was captured from a German officer I'd keep it all together.

Jim, I can't say as I could blame you for that. It is a very nice rig and deffinately worth pursuing. I managed to get a 1916 artillery here at the Yuma AZ gun show a few weeks back that looks like it just came out of the DWM factory. I have never seen a better one in all of my years of collecting in all original condition. Some older gal walked into the show with it. You never know what will pop out of the bushes. Jerry Burney

Quite a while back when I was on one of my stints being on the "good" side of law enforcement (ya'll know how it goes back& forth depending on the situation)a buddy asked if I wanted to visit his half cousin's wife's brother's stepbrother, he was
the sheriff in the town of Stevenson. Said he had a few guns at the station. So in we went, nice guy, didn't seem to recognize me, so we made the obligatory small talk about weather, hunting, fishing, ect. as we leaned on a pickup and chewed Redman. After a period of politeness and spitting my pal brought up firearms. Sure, come on it. Two BARs with loaded clips, two Thompsons, three M-2 carbines, he had an UZI for personal use, but in the back room was a wooden box about 3'x3',1' high, absoultely full of handguns. Had to have been 100 or more. He told me that some were pickups from drunks, lots were from domestic quarrels where they offered an option to give up the booze and asked if there were any guns in the trailer, always took them with them, said you can have them back in 48 hrs, lots of folks didn't pick them up, and lots of folks, usually elderly, just called and said "come pick this gun up, I don't want it in the house." Add that to the stolen guns not recovered, ect, lots of them just get dropped off.
When asked what he did with them, he just smiled, said it was good to meet me, come by anytime.

Ed, That was her alright! Actually I did not meet the woman. I bought it from a private collector friend of mine who had a table with me at the show, after he bought it from her. I paid $1200.00 for it so feel I got a smokin bargain.

Roadkill, don't you just hate it when someone shows you their pile of guns and won't sell you any? Jerry Burney

NOTE: Jerry I fixed this for you, hope that was ok, Ed
