An acquaintence recently asked me about a Luger his father owns. (I've not seen it yet.) It has the DWM stamp on the toggle, and he says it's dated 1921. It appears to be nickel plated, and he believes its original. I had never heard of nickel plating as a factory option, and suspect it's been refinish.

Consider your suspicions confirmed. It has been refinished.
