Ok, I am working a trade for this gun. Blue looks like about 85% or so straw about 90% minor pitting on left rail bore is mint and all matching numbers. The M2 holster is a fair with no tears just soft, it also has the pin punch and cleaning rod/oiler. I am trading a nice 95% Remington Rand 1911-A1 with British commercial proofs and a 98% Walther model 4 and $175 cash. The gun will go nicely with my Portuguese M2. Do you guys think I am getting a fair deal? I figure I am getting into the gun for about $1100.00.

GNR's are a lot harder to find than your M-2. only made 564 of them. Next you will want a navy to go with them

Doug, while I haven't checked 1911A1 prices lately, it seems like your RR at 95% may be worth considerably more than you think it is. IMO, your two pistols are worth much more than $1100. However, as already pointed out, the GNR Luger doesn't come along every day and the rig is likely close in value to your two pistols. I'd do it myself but that's only MY opinion.

I'm going to do the deal. Remington Rand 1911's in the condition mine was in bring $900 now. Keep in mind that it is not a lend lease gun. Simpson's has a 98% Model 4 advertised for $295! These guns have remained stagnant for the last 10 years. The GNR has gone up in value even in the lower grades. Thanks to those who chimed in.

Interarms, through their outlet "Ye Olde Hunter", sold a large number of 1911A1 pistols about 1960 that came from Britain and it's quite possible yours was one of them. In order for them to be sold to Interarms, the guns had to go through the British proof houses and that's how they got the British civilian proofs. Interarms sold them BRAND NEW, in the original wrapping, for $39.95! I know because my father bought one and when he ordered it he told them to send him a Colt or return his money. He got his Colt and I clearly recall the day it came by REA Express and we opened the box for the first time. It was made in 1943 and it's still in the family. They also were selling Itheca's and Remington Rand's..... all for the same price. Because those guns were civilian proofed doesn't rule out Lend Lease as far as I know. |

Doug, One negative on your proposed trade; the holster appears to be a standard 1906 model, never modified or marked for the GNR. Also the cleaning rod with the brass shaft is the standard DWM provided with the M1906. By 1935, the Portugese were making their own steel shaft rods with course knurling on the oiler caps. This pistol may well have been used with the M1906 accessories, but from a collectors point of view, I'd rather have it with the later long belt loop GNR marked holster and Portugese made cleaning rod. Lugerdoc, that's a good catch and one that didn't register when I looked at the rig. The proper GNR holster and tools would make a substantial difference in value, IMO.

Doug indicated that he knew it was an M2 holster in his first post. If he was getting a GNR Luger and a GNR holster for $1100, he would really be getting a bargan.

Thanks for the opinions. I went ahead with the deal. I figured the gun alone would be worth what I have in the whole package. I also needed the original cleaning rod for my M2 which has what I believe to be a repro. The 1911 was nice, but I use them for trading stock for more Lugers.

Hey Guys,
What would you expect to pay for a couple of GNR lugers now days. I would be interested to know. We don't often see them in our neck of the woods and I know a guy who has two. They are about 80% original blue all over, similar to the photos that Doug G posted but slighty better condition but no holsters. I do have a GNR holster, picked up a nice one from Tom Nelson at the SAR show week before last, plus an original large number concentric rings mag for my early navy.I now need a GNR gun to go into the holster.Funny how that seems to happen. I would appreciate you help. Murray NZ
