When you weld for repairwork does the blueing turn out the same color on the welds?

I guess I will find out when I blue mine! Mine (#3) will be rust blued! I dont know what plans Hugh has for #2. Ted

with the smaller area for the mainspring, do you just shorten the original or have a specially made short version to put in place with the same power as the original. Looks like an interesting project I'd like to tackle sometime.

Jim, I think Hugh is putting a smaller diameter spring within a larger spring for double power since it is shorter. I also think the frame can be modified to take a full length spring and guide. Ted

The first baby was silver soldered and you can hardly see the seam. I welded this one and have been informed by knowledgable sources that the welding will take bluing, as it is composed of carbon steel. I will find out when I rust blue it! As for the shorter spring; I used an "extra power" spring from Wolff and cut it to the correct length. Baby #1 is in 30 Luger, and will function with 96 gr bullets, but not with the 60 gr loads that I shoot in my 6".

for the information. I'm definately going to build one of those babys! I've always been interested in shortening and modifying auto pistols. I did a couple of 1911 Colts way back B4 they were commercially available. I had a WW2 Luger in mind for the conversion. Its finish is all gone, pitted extensivly on the right side and the bore is only fair. I'm hesitant to use it though because it is all matching (xcpt the mag). Perhaps my 'phone book' luger will be the one to undergo the operation. I have already completely polished and reblued it and scrubbed it of all the different #'s (NOTHING matched!) xcpt the frame #. Its a good shooter with a VG bore. Maybe I'll try posting a picture of the two and you guys can offer your opinions. Thanks again..

Werle tells me that putting a smaller spring within the main spring does not work. His Baby (Mini) also has a shortened Wolff high power spring. IÃ?Â´ve found that it needs 4 grains of Bullseye with a 124 grain bullet. It only has a one inch barrel but is astonishingly accurate.. Patrick
