Post Interesting Erfurt Swiss Shooter...

A Luger Forum member, SwissDaggers, is selling a very interesting Erfurt, Swiss modified luger :

http://www.swissdagger.com/index.html

The luger is in the "luger" menu selection on the web site...

It looks like this pistol was a 1918 Erfurt, most parts match the frame and reciever...but a Swiss proofed barrel has been added.

The unusual aspect of the 1918 Erfurt frame is that it has a grip safety...(which I assume must have been added later...).

Is such a grip safety modification to a luger fairly common-place ? Easy to do...?

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

I haven't seen a grip safety modification, but I have only been serious about collecting / specializing as long as you Pete!

Very cool grip safety!

Looking at the pictures, it seems to me that the front of the frame has been faced as the receiver is just slightly longer than the frame when in battery. It could, of course, be that the locking lever allows the receiber to sit slightly forward and I'd like to see if the usual Erfurt C/Letter stamp is on the trigger guard. My guess is a DWM frame mated to an Erfurt top and force matched numbers. The left side of the receiver also appears to have been refinished. Nicely done but refinished never the less.

The comparison is a 1908 Commercial and a KOL Dutch (1906 frame). Note that the metal at the bottom of the recoil spring housing which holds the grip safety spring and the axle hole for the grip safety lever is cut away on the 1908 frame. The relief at the top of the grip strap is different, also, but could be modified on the 08 frame.

Hello Doubs and Dwight...

Thanks so much for your thoughts and insights.!

Dwight; what is the small part in the bottom of your KOL grip strap...?

Pete,

That would be the grip safety spring that to return it to the safe position when the grip safety is not depressed.
