I would bet that the buyer thought it was a REAL TM-08 and not a toy reproduction... I feel sorry for whoever it was.

Yes indeed. Model Gun Corporation of Japan made excellent facsimiles of WW II (and other) weapons in the 1960's. I had not seen their 'logo', but it's pretty slick.
