Due to Nate, my plans were altered and I find myself at home on a nice day. Took advantage of the situation and tried to take some better pictures of the Simson I inherited from my father. Some are a bit out of focus, but not bad all in all. Sometime after I moved out (over 35 years ago) he had it reblued. The right grip had a chunk of wood missing allowing the grip to rotate forward which I had repaired. Also from comments here I had the spring and such added to retain the take down lever. The missing hold open is replaced with a new Swiss unit. The gunsmith also readded straw coloring to the trigger, mag release, trigger and takedown. The discoloring in the lever was already present. As a nice little touch he engraved the MECGAR mag with my serial number. It fires very nice and the matching mag cycles all the way every time. Not going to use it anymore, anyhow. (the mag, I'm sure I'll shoot the pistol again) The bore is not great but I had no problem with its accuracy.
After reading Simson Lugers I came to believe the front sight may have been replace at some point in time as there is no acceptance proof on it. There are 45 pictures so it will be in several pics. There are so many proofs on this. Thanks for looking and all the help offered here. Dave |
