Interesting frame

I bought a bunch of parts this last weekend, and this frame was with it. figured it was useless - then saw something that caught my eye.

I've seen pics here of the 'Rust' marking...but I don't recall seeing any with the arrow...

Early Dutch with the grip safety and no stock lug have the upward pointing arrow like this frame. After 1928 the Dutch Lugers were made like the German P08 without a grip safety and with a stock lug...these guns have a downward pointing arrow. Obviously Ed's frame came from an early Dutch.

Usually when I see a frame cut like this it is because someone was salvaging the stock lug to restore a Luger that had its stock lug ground off or to add a stock lug to a grip safety frame to create a "carbine" from a M1900 or M1906 Luger. Since Ed's gun never had a stock lug I have no idea why it was cut that way. Perhaps to restore a grip safety Luger that had a badly damaged lower rear frame?

I wouldn't try to restore this frame without having the hardness of the ears tested, not even for a shooter. The frame looks to me like it might have been in a house or vehicle fire and may have lost it's temper. It would make a good wall hanger, paperweight, umbrella handle, or display piece though...

I have a friend who offered me a stock lug, hard to get a grip safety part?

There is a proper grip safety on eBay now for $95.

Thanks Joe, I actually have at least one I think left. But getting that part of the frame might be hard... I wonder how the internals diff from safety to recoil - no recoil lug L needed?

I don't think you can use a P08 safety lever in a grip safety. The angle is wrong. I think some people were able to reverse the safety catch but that was above my pay grade.

It would be done by relocating the little lug on the grip safety lever. I do not know if the slot in the frame for its tip will cooperate immediately.
