Default S/42 Question

I am new to Lugers and have been offered this S/42 for 1600.00 All parts match except the mag. Including both grips. The left grip panel is missing a small amount of wood where it goes under the safety. That's the only thing I can find wrong with it. Think its a decent buy? THANKS Lefty14615

Hi Bruce, Welcome to the forum! 1939 S/42's are harder to find than 1939 42's and $1,600.00 seems like a fair price.
Regards, Norm

Lefty;
Agreed. A respectable price for what appears to be a good, collectable Luger.
Welcome aboard!

Hugh has mentioned that member Jim Solomon now does checkering; I expect Jim does 'chip' repairs as well...

Default Grip

After a closer look at the photos, I think that it would be an enjoyable project with good results. If interested, please contact me via my email address or pm.
Thanks,
Jim

My activities rehabilitating grips seem to have taken a back seat to warm weather duties, but I'll be back at it when the snow flies, for sure. Then I'll be working to solidify some techniques for structural repairs such as the million dollar chip, one of which I've not actually done from start to finish at this point. I'll post pics of the progress, so you'll be able to tell when I'm up to speed.

Naw, he has shifted his collecting focus to Colt Single Actions, but still plays in the Luger community...

Good group of guys here with great knowledge and a willingness to share it.

Jim's gonna make me a set of custom Luger grips as soon as he gets caught up!
