Help with info re: BYF 1939 Luger with unusual marking

After telling a friend about the help that was given me on this forum he asked that I post some pics of this Luger to find some information about it. The questions are regarding two things in particular. First is the year and BYF code. Isn't a 1939 chamber date and BYF code unusual? Second was is the significance of the little marking that is on the bottom of the stock lug and on the magazine base. You can see the symbol on the stock lug in pictures 6 & 7 and on the magazine in pictures 7 & 8. All numbers on every part on the gun match. Any help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

KRO, Obviously a BYF toggle is not correct for a 1939 PO8 (should be code 42) and I believe the eagle markings on the frame & mag to be spurious. Tom PS: Also the blue on the barrel is too shiny. What are the barrel markings?

The first picture was taken indoors. The other 3 outdoors in natural light that why the color looks so different.

I don't know what these markings might be on the bottom of the stock lug and on the magazine base. They look like nothing even vaguely recognizable. You have to have a strong punch with an excellent strike to make that much of a dent in the bottom of the stock lug though!

Someone had told him that they had heard when the contract with Mauser ended and mauser started making only P38's Left over luger parts were used to build some lugers that were sold to the Portugese navy. Don't know anything about that that's why I posted the pics and sought help from the experts. The owner has had the gun since the early 80's so if its been monkeyed with it was done a while back.

For some reason those grips scream repop to me. Be it the courseness of the checkering or the lines, or a "fat" appearance, they don't look quite right. Are they marked?

They are marked with the last 2 numbers of the serial number

Gun looks new, grips look new.
Edges look sharp though. I can't tell. Scary shiny.
Still beautiful either way.
