Were artillery holsters dyed black. Both of mine are brown! Is his correct?~~~Eric

I have seen them and own them in both colors. Just why they are different colors, I have no idea.

I believe an Army directive in 1916 ordered all leather equipment dyed black. In very many cases this was not done.
