Default 1916 DWM, complete rig

It's been a while since I have purchased any Lugers, this one came up for sale and I was glad to add it to my collection. I thought I would share some photos of it here.

On the inside flap of the holster the name "Sgt Nixon" is written. The holster is dated 1916, and there is also a german name present, on the back the same name appears and this time with the matching serial number right below it. I've taken it all apart and everything matches including both magazines. Quite happy with this one as all my other Luger's do not have a single matching magazine let alone two.

Cheers,
Rylan

Rylan,
Great find. And with two matching mags to boot! I also see there is a possible regiment marking on the inside holster flap also."BAIII."

Thank you all for your comments. Yes correct, III Army Corps I've been told. The name looks like "KLICKS"? Is there any way to research that further from just that little bit of information that I have?

Rylan, very nice rig! Any trouble obtaining this beauty in gun-phobic Canada?

Very nice rig!

Rylan, One of the pics reveals the toggle axle's retaining pin is blued, not in the white. This is usually a sign of the toggle's being refinished--rust blued without dis-assembly, whereby the pin is blued along with the joined toggles. We should soon hear from someone more knowledgeable about this...not sure what it means in this case.

While in excellent shape, the pistol has seen use. To my eye, the toggle retaining pin looks either corroded or possibly slightly sunk with debris in the depression, rather than blued.

No trouble for me. You need to be grandfathered to obtain any short barreled handgun. Our laws class anything with a 4" barrel (or shorter) as being Prohibited. This leads to a lot of nice Lugers being re-barreled with something a 1/4" longer.. a damn shame really.

Ah, yes I see what you mean. It does look that way in the picture, I just had a look at it and it doesn't appear to be 'white', but it doesn't really look like the pin has any bluing on it. I could be wrong though.

Initially, I didn't check the situation in the closest shot, full res. because there didn't seem to be anything there to look at! Having just done so, I agree with you and Doug--a little darkened by grunge in its slightly recessed position, but definitely not blued. Thanks for answering/pointing this out. Although I was presumptuous/lazy for not first checking the full sized pic, it reinforces the rule of thumb that the BEST way to check out a pistol is in-hand!

That's the key right there, nothing beats a hands on inspection. Not to mention photos can be deceiving at times.

Thank you all for your kind comments
