Highlight material

Hi all,

What is best or perferred material to use to highlight the stamps and serial numbers on Lugers (or any weapon)?

I am thinking a white grease pencil but I'd likie to capture other thoughts.

I have used grease pencil but there are other options out there. Lacquer sticks from Brownells
comes to mind but I have never used it.

Brownells "Lacquer-Stiks" are the best. It adheres very well, yet is easily removed with a bit of oil and a tooth brush.

Once I liked highlighting. Later hated it -- it hides the edge of stamping and halo. Luckily, easily removable via a little bit Acetone.

I have been using lacquer sticks for many many years, and have never had it damage the finish on anything that I used it on. Just be sure to get the area clean/degreased before applying the color.

What would be a good degreaser to use for this?

Acetone should remove oily residue safely. Consider a soft, natural-bristled brush to clean the tiny depressions, as synthetic bristles--and plastic brushes, as well--tend to dissolve in acetone...

I have had good luck with lacquer thinner and Q-tips for degreasing. There are other solutions like 91% alcohol, acetone, MEK, etc. I keep lacquer thinner in my shop all the time, so it is what I reach for first.
