Shot Gun for Enfield No 2

Came across a guy looking to trade this Enfield NO 2 .32 for a double barrel shot gun. I had a Springfield side by side 16 ga (pre model 5100) I've had for many years sitting in the gun cabinet. I had to kick in $100 to make the deal but think it was worth it. I know nothing about this old pistol other than all the numbers match on the cylinder, frame, barrel, and it is very tight. I am more of a ww2 collector and thinking of trying to trade it for a P38? Any thoughts?

Your gun is interesting but I don't believe it ever left the factory with that super short barrel. It has been altered so would have no real interest to a collector.

Day-em!!! That is a short cylinder!!!

The cartridge must be as wide as it is long!!!

But a very cool snub-nose!

(Looks like something I would have thought up...hmmmm...)

I'll have to keep a lookout for one of those...

Dave, can you show a side view of the complete revolver??? My monitor is cutting off the grip in the pics...

Edit: Well! There's one on GB right now, and a factory refurb at that...

The .38 S&W is a fairly anemic load, but believed effective in Europe at that time.

I'll be interested in seeing what that one sells for.. With an estimate of less than 500 of them maybe I should hang on to it

...But they're dealer/importer conversions...Not factory issued...

I'd be surprised if the one on GB hits $500...

well I have just under $300 in this one and I agree it looks better than that one. Don't think I did to bad.

I think you did good, too...but it's hard to tell with only half a grip...

I asked the mates at Surplusrifles/Enfield what the markings meant on that GB snubbie...

Looking at your pics, Dave, your No 2 has the E in a D I ** but is not an FTR...It does have the British export firing proofs (the 3.7 Tons, .707" ? , .38, and a stylized "S" I think)...The ESC 320 is vaguely familiar...but I don't recall what it means...

(Heh...I like the itty bitty screw in the front sight blade)...

Occasionally you see these with a brass [sometimes steel] disc in the right grip panel...With or without markings...they were for unit identification...Unit designations stamped into the disc...Sometimes if you have a blank disc, it has been turned over to hide the unit markings...or completely removed to prevent your unit being known...Most times just a blank disc, as the FTR re-issues would be...

(It has the rounded front sight blade)

Doug, I looked up the 38 S&W cartridge compared to the 9mm Parabellum...It's not all that far off...

Hmmmm...I just re-read Dave's first post...Doug, Dave wrote that it is a .32...but the export proofs look to me to be ".38"...

Nope, that's the 'broad arrow'. Is it held in with a screw ? (Enfield rifle discs are held in with a screw - I have a couple from my rifles). If it comes off easily, there may be a unit designation on the back side.
