I just acquired 1 1937 S/42 ,Ser#7332 Luger. I would like to know If I can get a tear-down manual and general over-all instructions that are needed to maintain it properly. Would I need to get any normal maintenance tools?

Try this link. An old toothbrush and some WD 40 is all you really need. If you are concerned about the bore you can use a "bore snake" or a standard cleaning rod with a brass brush and some cotton patches. Joe

Welcome to the forum Richard,

I've been a member for a little over half a year, and I'm thinking perhaps enough of the shine has worn off that I can comment for you...

The best $7.95 I ever spent was the purchase of Gerard Henrotin's e-book, Luger Mechanical Function. It should answer your questions pretty much at first reading, all about how the Luger system works top to botton, front to back.

For everything to take down and maintain a Luger on a day to day basis, all you'd need is the takedown tool. However, it is recommended that screwdrivers that fit the slots specifically be used on the grip screws and firing pin guide, to avoid buggering up the screw heads' slots.

For changing out an extractor, you'll need a pin punch, preferably brass/bronze or other non marring metal. This same punch will work for other retaining pins on the gun, such as the one for the safety lever. you might have occasion to remove the extractor entirely in the event of a thorough cleaning, as you do not want crud building up under there; or if you're intending to shoot the pistol and wish to protect your extractor from mishap by substituting a repro firing pin and extractor.

The alternative I've used, instead of removing the extractor, is to let a little solvent soak in under the extractor and then blow out the assembly with compressed air. Tip the extractor uo with your finger for even better access. Do the compressed air blast over/in a white towel. When the towel remains unstained from what is blown out, it's clean under there.

Be forewarned, there is no cure for Luger Fever. Good luck, and enjoy the trip!

Except for parting something out, I personally never take the extractor or safety lever out..... I know some folks believe a really solid cleaning is good, but I don't do that

Ok I finally got the breakdown---Now how about assorted parts-From an exploded diagram I almost lost the bolt spring and it is very worn and deformed.-Luger 1937 S/42-
