Default For Doug (silverknife)

Here's my first attempt at posting a photo on the forum...sorry it's not one of the Lugers I own, but an example of my graphic work on the shell of a calabash gourd (crescentia cujete).
This piece (approx. length 3.5") was done several years ago, made from a portion of one of the shells collected in Vieques, P.R.. Pattern was applied, excised with X-acto knives to expose sturctural shell, leaving its skin as the subject. Then pyro-engraved hair on Spidey, finished with clear polyurethane for best color retention. Unfortunately, it was stolen from the gallery where it was displayed. The owner reimbursed me, but I'd have preferred a regular sale.

Ah, my Lugers... 1917 LP.08, 1917 DWM, 1906 AE 9mm, and a 9mm 70's Mauser w/6" bbl....
All are cooling their grip straps at my local FFL, until my danged permit arrives (The saga of obtaining a CCW permit in Schuyler County, NY will be an update to a post I made almost 4 months ago, when I initiated the process.),
Yeah, I'm more than ready to document them for the forum, particularly in how I'm to solve the issues each one has. By the way, related to this, another tip'o'the hat to Lugerdoc and G.T. for their help in matters so far.

That's exquisite work. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to do each of the hairs on the spider. Using the shell as the coloring agent itself is unique to say the least.

Regards,
Doug
