Feedback on my 1st. Luger

For my 1st. post I would like to get some feedback on my 1st. Luger …
I found this one at the last gun show, a guy had a sign stating he was selling a Luger and I asked to see it. He pulled out a small box from his bag and opened it to reveal what you see in the photo.
It is from what I can tell, a VOPO Luger…
The barrel… top (1920 over 1917) side (three proof marks) bottom has a letter C
Frame has what looks like ( 18 . K . 10 . 42 . ) not sure if it is a K or an H or what…

The owner before me had striped all the old blue off and packed it in Cosmoline…

the mag is marked P.08 FxO and two Waffen marks with a 37 under it

In the 2nd photo, there is a sring thing,…what is it?

As you mention, you have a VOPO Luger with the plastic, Bullseye grips that someone took apart, apparently to refinish/restore.
The wire in the second photo is the spring that holds the takedown lever, (locking bolt) in place. You will see a cut under where the takedown lever fits. This is where this spring drops into. There is a corresponding hole in the frame in front of the triggerguard where the small end of the spring is anchored.

Welcome to the forum,

a shooter is a good start to collecting and learning. Hope it was for a good price, but a shooter usually sells for $450-$700 all depending on condition and how it looks etc.

Also, your magazine is desirable to some collectors should you wish to recoup some of your money and shoot yours with a good, aftermarket magazine.

Also, please photograph the markings on the frame. This will interest collectors tracking unit markings.

might be missing some pins, the safety lever and the L shaped thingy (my mind is blank)

Everything seems to be there. Some parts may appear missing because they are displayed on their side and are therefore not immediately recognizable. The trigger "L" is attached to the sideplate.

Now that i know what the spring in the 2nd photo is i can say it has all its parts...The trigger "L" is attached to the sideplate...

so once I get it reblued, I will have a good example of VOPO

Now I need to find someone who can blue it , reassemble it and test fire it.
any suggestions on a good smith....

No, the l shaped thingy is not the sideplate. i said the pins are missing.

for those two items.

The l shaped item is for the recoil spring...

well i am in Fl. and i do not see how it is fruitless without this info. as the good gun smith should have an FFL to do his or her smithing and i would mail the gun in for work...

so the amount of time you used to say what you said could have been used to drop one or two names that you know to be a good gun smith....oh-well I guess as you say it is "fruitless"

You misjudge what John was trying to say. This forum has members from all over the planet. You might have been posting from Borneo, for all we know. How do you imagine we could make a good recommendation if this were the case? Importing a gun for work into the US from destination X is a major undertaking and not worth the effort for a shooter. That's why its nice to know your location.

I hope this makes John's concern over your origin more clear.
