I have a matching 1918 Artillery , with "9MM" stamped upside down above the proof marks. The 'font' looks German. No import marks anywhere, or non German proofs. Any idea why this was done? Also, gun will not fire unless I put slight pressure on the side plate while pulling the rigger. I cleaned out all the crud around the sear, but don't want to start bending stuff. What remedy is recommended? Thanks.

First, don't try to bend or form anything related to the trigger bar. It's hardened, and will break. There was a special tool for adjusting these, and the process involves heating it to remove the temper first.
I've never seen "9MM" stamped onto an Artillery. Is your pistol import marked with "Made in Germany" or "Germany" stamped somewhere? Is there any play as the takedown lever pushes the trigger plate against the receiver? Is there any play in the plunger that is at the front end of the sear bar? I have seen mention of ways to build up the surface where the trigger contacts the trigger bar. It may be one way of approaching a fix. Marc

No "GermanY" or other import marks. Thanks for the direction on where to look for looseness. What about adjusting the flat spring behind the sear bar?

I'd like to see pictures of the 9mm markings?
Sounds like it went to another country and it wanted to be obvious what caliber it is. Could even have come to the USA and someone stamped it? Ed

My gut feeling is that this is some sort of goverment stamp at time of import or transfer. I can't imagine anybody else being so careless of appearances as to put the mark upside down in this way.
