Bill,
Someone more knowledgeable may correct me, but I believe that is a "Political Leader" buckle. If so they are worth $150.00 - $175.00 from what I have seen. The small white wings are Luftwaffe collar devices / rank insignia. The cross is a "Merit Cross" First Class(?), not sure of value. Ron

Hi Bill, Don't know the value, but I'd be interested in the war merit cross, if you're in the mood to sell or trade???

The War Merit Cross is for a non-combat recipient. The medals won in battle have swords added. This is for a civilian who aided in the war effort.

Bill,
The above cross reference is for a 2nd. class (bronze) with swords. Your medal is a War Merit Cross 1st. class without swords in it's original, excellent condition case. Approximate value is about $250.- $350. depending on if any code marking on the pin's reverse. The buckle is a Political Leader. There are two different sizes one each for the service leather and dress brocade belts. Value is about $200.00 for the standard service leather belt and about $500.00 for the slightly smaller brocade belt. Best regards, John Pepera |

John
Thank you. The only thing on the back is the number 52. Does this mean anything? The buckle part of the political buckle is 65 mm. Bill

Agree with John's values. Nice finds, Bill!! (I've never seen a number stamping on a War Merit Cross, not sure what it might add in value). I'm traveling so can't say anything on the Political Leader Buckle

Bill,
The # '52' on the reverse is the manufacturer's code number used instead of their company name. It's not unusual to see these numbers on the reverse but to a collector, an added asset. Your piece appears to be a nice example and as said, is in an excellent condition case so I would estimate the value at around $350. The Political Leader's buckle is the more common, larger size and it also appears to be in excellent condition so the value is in the area of $200. - $250. Best, John |
