Default Helping family sell this Luger

An older family member is wanting to get rid of her father’s guns and one Is this 1918 Mauser Luger. I was told by others it has been refinished and that the magazine serial numbers have been added later. It’s all matching except the safety has a 22 instead of 20 but the last 2 has what looks like an arrow through it. And obviously it doesn’t have the original grips but the owners father appeared to like fake pearl grips since several of the guns had the same brand on them. Finish is really nice for a refinish. I was wondering if this is anything more than just a good shooter and what is a fair price to put on it. TIA

You are accurate in your description except for the date (a typo I think). It is a shooter grade, no collector value. More pictures are needed on the holster to determine originality.

The shield in sunburst under the serial number on the frame suggests an East German Vopo rework. The grips are obviously replacements.

The large numbers on the mags are pretty standard of Vopo lugers, They simply ground off old number and stamped new numbers and issued 2 per newly rebuilt pistol. The shield is the give away. So this thing saw service in ww1, the Weimar years, WW2, then post war. Is there an import mark on it anywhere ? There is no "police safety" on it which is interesting

This is a standard 1938 manufactured military contact Luger by Mauser, so it missed out on the Great War, the Weimar Republic and the early TR period.

Was obviously captured on the eastern front during WW2 and later reissued to the GDR (East Germany). Unfortunately the plastic grips that the GDR used to replaced the original wooden ones were subsequently removed on this pistol to accommodate the private purchased pearl ones.
For unknown reason the safety lever was also changed out when the pistol was refurbished in a GDR armory.
