Leo, please reload the picture without the extra http:\\ It is causing the picture to not come through. When you paste the image url into the box you need to first erase the http:\\ that is already present, you only need one to describe the path!

Ok, having studied the 'mystery' "W" it appears that upside it is a lower case "M" a really nice one, at that. Since all of our email addresses get posted with our message there is no reason to ask someone here to email them offline that I can think of..so, I agree with the Thormeister, unfair. Hey, you Lugerforum guys..Merry Christmas!! (I sure hope someone posts their red and green Luger on the forum for the holidays..).

Bill, Having studied this from all angles I must disagree with it being an M. It appears to me to deffinately be a W. Turned upside down there are not two peaks to form the M and the curlyques would not look right on an M as they are on the top of a W and would be on the bottom of an M.On Naval stuff the M is quite clear. Your guess is as good as mine though. One man's opinion.

I would have to agree with you Jerry. It is a fancy W and is in a place that is not documented as having proof, acceptance or serial numbers (or letters). That particular style of W does not show up in any reference material that I have. It very well may have been a personal aftermarket stamp (for who knows what reason). Since it is not listed as a military or commercial stamp or location it is truly a mystery 'W'. Even inverted it does not resemble a navy 'm'. It does remind me of a Winchester logo in a way..hmmm..!

Latest update......the mystery "W" is solved, the "W" represensts the Imperial Govevernment Rework Arsenal located at Wurtenberg. They used the "W" one with a crown and one without a crown for something minor in the trigger mechanism needed rework, thus the "W" on the trigger guard to indicate the work was done...........this comes from Mr. Sam Constanzo.............Leo
