Default 1929 Police Luger from Ice

Aside from clothing and personal gifts, Charlie gave me this 1929 Police Luger for Christmas. It was originally fitted for the magazine safety but the slot above the receiver was later welded up; they left the hole under the sideplate. The 9mm bore is perfect and the rest of the Pistole looks mighty good to me inside and out; we don't think that it has been refinished. The grips are absolutely beautiful with nice figure but are un-numbered. Do you think they are aftermarket; Charlie doesn't know. All matching numbers - 5204 t - with a non-matching aluminum bottom magazine. Crown N and Waa66 proofs.

I am a beginner collector and Charlie is no expert either so we would value your opinions. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the poor photos; very overcast day today.

Ice,

You have a very nice '29 DWM Police gun. I don't know about the grips, but the finish looks original.

Looks re-blue and straw, but still very nice.....very good start in collecting.

Thank you. The old pistol may just be too nice to be truly original, huh? I guess it could have been reblued if they welded up that little slot above the left grip where the mag safety fit. The metal around the serial numbers still appears to be raised where they were stamped. Does that mean anything? I can make better photos when the weather gets better if that helps. Thanks.

Regional pictures could help: The connection pin of toggle link is supposed being fire blued; the barrel number is supposed showing strong halo. the ears are supposed showing fine tool marks. The "G...." text on ear is supposed being yellowish white (but that can be washed away, let's ignore this), bright white color is more likely being recently applied (n/a).

Are all police guns supposed having magazine safety cut? I tried "Heat Blocker" on my scrap steel bar last night, it can control 2500F within an area smaller than tiny finger nail size. So nickle steel filler melted in that region but neighorhood gun blue was not affect. Don't know how German did those, any evidence on welding?
