I have a 1913 DWM Luger that I'm having trouble finding any info on. It is unusual in that it has no provision for a toggle hold open device and none for a stock attachment. The grips are smooth walnut as is the mag knob. The serial number is 1541, which as near as I can tell is well below the recorded low number of this year. I believe the pistol to be either a military or police issue as the front grip strap shows B.19.R9.12. Imperial proofs on the left side of the reciever are crowns over letters (3) and the imperial eagle. All serial nubers match and I would rate the gun an easy 90%+.over all. Only the grip screws are not origional to the gun and I have the origionals including the broken one. It is of course in 9mm parabellum.
Any information anyone could give me on this pistol would be greatly appreciated. |

Mark, the grip strap marking is a property stamp for the Bavarian 19th Infantry Regiment, 9th company. It was weapon number 12 of that company. If the "R" is cursive it is the reserve 19th regiment. Early 1913's were not made with stock lugs or hold-opens. All units in the german army except Bavarian and Wuertemberger had their early Lugers retrofitted with hold-opens in 1913/1914. As a Bavarian piece yours would corrcetly not have be modified.
The grip plates should be checkered walnut and should be numbered on the inside to the pistol. Please post some photos. |

Mark,
Your Luger is not unusual at all, it is absolutely correct as George has indicated. Also as George as stated, please post some photos. We will all enjoy seeing a nice early military Luger.

George;
Thanks for the quick response and the info. I'll try to get some pictures out in the next day or two. I'm not a Luger collector per se but I've owned this piece since 1968 and am quite fond of it. Mark |
