I'm a new member with almost no knowledge of Lugers. I recently met a widow who had a nice looking Luger. I took some pitcures of it.

I was hoping to get an idea of what it is, what it's worth, etc. She might be looking to sell it, and I want to keep her from gettting ripped off. She was already offerred a few hundred dollars, and I know it's worth much more.

So, here it is. All I know is that it's marked DWM, it's 9mm, and all the numbers matched except the mag. It has a cool holster too. Not that this can be verified, but according to family lore, it was taken from a German soldier in WWII.

Nice police rig. There are experts that can give you a price but it is worth more than a few hundred bucks.

Probably worth around $1100 if you were selling as a group on gunbroker.

It is a WW1 that was then stamped with a 1920 (if I see that right) for the gov't (not a double date as some folks say); then received a sear and mag safety in the mid 1930's.

Does the front grip strap have the same unit marking as the holster?

If I was buying it at a gunshow for myself or to resell, I would offer $800 for all; then hope to make a few bucks on the rest.

The holster like it is, is fairly rough and the holes detract from it, although it appears to have the same serial number as the weapon; however, I don't like the different stampings from the unit markings to the sn markings.

It is more likely that it was taken from a policeman in the district of Magdeburg than from a soldier. From what I can tell from the photos, it is a 1918 DWM with a 1920 property stamp. What is the lower-case letter suffix below the serial number 1771 on the front of the frame? From one of the photos, it looks like a script "t".

I agree with Jerry that it appears to be a nice, genuine police rig.

First, thanks to everyone for their expert knowledge and friendly feedback. I need another area of firearms interest like I need a hole in the head, but this Luger stuff is fascinating.

DonM, I wish I could tell you what that letter or marking is. I took these pictures with a camera that was new to me, and this was the day before I posted here. I didn't figure out that I was taking the pictures without flash until afterwards, and this is why the picture quality is lacking.

The person who owns this weapon is a very nice lady who I met through an friend. I stopped by her house to appraise a group of weapons so that she would not get taken if she sold them.

I don't have access to this weapon. I don't think she plans on selling it, but I didn't want to give her a value on something I know nothing about.

I would be great if one of our Phoenix members could check to see of the luger is all matching including the nice nickel plated Schmeisser Police mag (the other is an OLD triple K). THis could perhaps add 50% to the estimated $1K prices quoted. TH

If the owner of this gun is up to that, I'll let you guys know. She's a sweet lady. She is the widow of former Maricopa County Sheriff Tom Agnos.

This was one of his favorite pieces. I'm not so sure she wants to part with it, but if she does, I'll tey and get it into the hands of someone here who will apreciate it.

If the Luger is unit marked and matches the holster. I would put it at a $2000 replacement (insurance) value. The selling price would be around $1500-$1600,IMO. If the Luger is not unit marked, $200 less.
