Default S/42 Early Finish, Police with Vietnam papers

A friend asked me to see about selling some of his guns, one is a S/42 Police Luger (from what I can tell from the Luger book)that he brought back from Vietnam. He has all of the original capture and export papers. It's all matching in pretty decent shape in a homemade holster. It looks like the mag safety is present but not working (intentionally disabled?). Where's the best place to get an estimate of value and to help him sell it?

Welcome. And the answer is here, and this is a good place

Mag safeties were decommissioned years before they went out of nazi service. A lot of military guns ended up in Vietnam, so not a huge surprise, but interesting.

Provide pictures and info, type, serial number etc and we can help.

Value would be from $500-$1600, all depending on if original, any extras (holster) mags, etc.

Capture papers help, but are not worth a huge amount, maybe $50-$100 extra.

The magazine is aluminum, non matching. There are 4 different documents with it - Vietnam Export License, a temp export permit, registration of war trophy firearms, and a war trophy registration/authorization.

I am near Harleysville (Allentown) for home) and work in Benslaem (near Philly) (we are a long, long ways form each other); would love to see this, I wrote a book of complation stories of bring backs.

This is a G date, with a sear and mag safety. Would like to know if it is a parts gun or all matching. If all matching, G dates like this are uncommon being sear safeties; although condition brings value down.

That holster is very typical of the plethora of handmade leather goods available there.
I still have one I carried my .45 in.

It appeared to be all matching except the magazine. The vet who brought it back is here in Erie as well. If you want I can pass your phone number on to him and see if he wants to give you a call.
