Noob needs advice with finn Luger!

Hi guys!

It�´s my first post as you probaly can notice! I�´ve been reading only this forum for several years but no I decided to ask some aid in id my luger.

I�´ve made an album to the all albums section were are the photos of the gun! I�´ve some more photos if those are not enough.

I now that someone will answer to look info on this forum and so on but I find it bit hard cause it�´s so full of info and I don�´t understand all the technical stuff that you need to get that exact knowledge.

1. I�´m interested in the value of the gun and the manufacture year of the gun and also the acessories that are in the first pic!

2. Especially I�´m interested how often you come up with the "adapter barrel" or what ever its real name is? Are they common?

This particular weapon has endured six years of war in 1939-1945, so it�´s a bit worn out. And therefore the extra barrel. The shorter barrel has worn out pretty much!

All the equipment and the gun was "sold" (wiht five other guns the price was something around 30% of the real price) to me by the man who used it in those wars. I�´m therefor keeping the gun weather the value was millions or a dime.

The vet who sold me those weapons tald me some stories of the war where he used his gun. I was very keen on listening those stories. I can assure that this is a killing machine and very accurate one.

I�´m very happy if I get some answers out of you lot. By the way I find it very good and informative forum this Luger forum!

Kazim, I guess I should say welcome, but you said you've been on the forum for years

I think I hate the album feature, as folks post there and then people have to go and look up the picture rather than just look in the posting.

It is helpful to just tell us what the items you are looking for by giving us information, such as serial number, date (?) on the gun, proof marks etc. Then you can get better replies than us searching and looking on pictures.

I looked at the pictures and it was a commericial marked DWM, year is harder to determine just by the serial number.

I finally managed this hard operation of attaching photos to a post!!

So here they are!!!

Few things I�´d like to ad that the both barrels are 7,65mm.
The shorter barrel has a different sn on it and the gun doesn�´t have a SA- marks on it. I assume that the gun was privately owned before the war and given to the man who used it at the war!

Kazim, The Finnish army purchased 5000 commerical 7.65 lugers with 98mm long barrels from DWM in 1923. I'm not sure when the army added the SA property markings, but I have seen several from this lot NOT SA marked. Those still in military hands during WW2 had the barrels changed to 9mmP and usually 5" long with Tikka arsenal markings on the bottom of the barrel. TH

No. The longest barrel doesn�´t have any markings on it! Not a single one!

hmm.. I believe I have one just like it, but in 9mm. Yours is in 7.65 right?

What is that odd tool in the photo??? It looks like it goes down the barrel and then locks around the front sight...

But what does it do???

it's a muzzle protection cap. Looks like 1930's era police Issue made by Erma.
(ref. Weimar/Nazi Luger by Still, page: 185)

Never seen one with a rod before.. does it go into the barrel all the way to the breech block?

my guess would be a blank firing adaptor, based on similar designs I have seen for other firearms.

There are two rods for these, the one shown is the adaptor to shoot 22lr or 4mm through for training purposes.

The other adaptor you see is a cleaning rod (not seen here), and it has an upside down bell on it towards the end and this whacks the end of the cap instead of the end of the muzzle.

Very interesting!!!

...Is it single-shot (loaded and extracted by hand for each shot) or is there a special magazine that feeds the sub-caliber ammunition???

There is a tool to put each single round in there.
Personally, i think, it`s frustruating to shoot those 4 mm things...
Take`s a lot of time to just load.

Since viewing your photos, I can say that your luger started out as KH rework (horizontal C/Ns on the frame, receiver & BB) in the 1920s and was probably sold commerically. Later, perhaps were rebarrelled some serials were added to the reciever and perhaps other parts. TH
