Default Help a newbie

Hello,

I'm new to Lugers so I wanted to know where I stand:

I won a Luger at an auction site and here's the description:

"1939 Date, Mauser 42 Code P08, 63 Waffen Ampt, 83% original blue, matching numbers but for the clip, clip is correct WWII style, good grips"

Then I find out that the "lever to release the side plate" does not match.

How much would a gun with a mis-matched side plate cost in the above condition?

Here's what I bought:

Thanks in advance,

Rusty

The gun was misrepresented and if you are not happy with the mismatched take down lever I would contact the seller and return it right away.

The seller offered money as a concession so I want to know what it's worth as is.

Well that depends... What did you pay for it as an all-matching gun?
Are all internal parts matching? Are the grips matching? Serial number and suffix?
Please post more photos so the board can give you an approximate value.

Rusty,
This gun had a low starting price ($995) for being all matched. I called the seller about this gun before the auction ended and before anyone had bid on it. As he was going over the serial #'s with me, he suddenly noticed the takedown didn't match. He then offered it to me for $895. I declined and mentioned that if somebody bid on it he would have to tell them about it before sending it to them. If he didn't tell you before sending it to you, he owes you your money including all transfer fees and shipping charges both ways. If you still want to keep it, he may go a lot lower than that.

Mike,

I was told about it after the gun shipped. There were some "emergency" and the owner didn't tell me in time...

What would you say is a fair price for this gun?

Thanks!

Rusty

$895 would be the high end IMO. I saw your closeup pics of the gun on Gunboards. It looks rougher than the one pic that he provided for the auction. Some would consider this to be a shooter only. With time and patients I think you could find a similar one for around $700-$800. Offer less. He might except it to avoid the hassle of bad feedback and having to pay all of your shipping and fees.
