Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and first would like to say thanks to all the people who must have worked hard to get this site up. I am not a collector but was lucky enough to inherit a nice pistol when my dad died about 25 years ago. It actually belonged to my older brother, who pre-deceased Dad, and was probably purchased at a gun show in the late 60's. I still remember the day of the funeral, my uncle was helping my mom go through some of my dad's things and he mentioned the Luger and I could tell he was hoping I wasn't interested because I know he was. Well I considered it a family heirloom and replied no, I wouild very much like to keep it in our family. I researched the gun a bit, learned how to take it apart and care for it but not realizing it had a pretty good collector value I shot maybe a couple hundred rounds through it over the years. Since then I've learned that a pistol, holster (with tool) and matching magazine (just one) is a pretty good combination and have decided not to shoot it anymore. I since shared my knowledge with my son (21yo) and I will make sure it will be left to him when I die. I once had a violin that I bought for really really cheap that turned out to be worth over $20K also about 20 years after I had bought it. In this case I somehow convinced myself I needed to sell it, it was too valuable, should be insured etc. and besides I don't play violin. It was sold, the money spent, and now to be honest I wish I had hung on to it. I will try to get my son to take some pictures and at least add the data to the database. Shaker PS I posting from work and don't have the info in front of me but it is a military P08, byf/42 is something I think I remember. |
