What does this proof mean?

Gents,

Recently traded for my first P08, a 1918/1920 double date shooter. Really nice piece I think but probably refinished (still rust blued but the muzzle end is also blued) a long, long time ago. Real clean metal and all proofs are deep and sharp. ALL internal parts match frame and barrel. Grips not matched, nor is mag and my intent was to purchase/trade for a shooter. VERY satisfied with that part but...

In looking at this one with a loup I noted a barrel proof I did not see when trading. From my local FFL I went though this huge red covered Luger proof book (sorry, I know the title might be helpful...duh) that identified it as a Simson barrel proof. The proof is on the left upper side of the barrel, approximately 11 o clock from the receiver dates.

So...my question is, did Simson "redate" the 1920 mandate and if so, is this the correct placement? Could they have been responsible for the refinish?

I will try to post pics this weekend of this one and another I traded for but it is driving me "buggy" to figure out why this particular proof shows up on a much earlier DMW.
